Costing a Shift - How do the charges come together? - PowerForce Workshop™
Top of Page
Introduction
If we refer to the sample look at shift charges on the "quick look" screen - we see that there's a value "D5" in the Charge Code field. How did the system get this value?
Step 1
What is the name of the rostering location in this example? - T1 (Terminal 1).
Quickly using [NAV] / Clientele / Client Contracts - open the record for T1, and then click on the Casual Charges tab, to get the following:

What we find here is a Fee Schedule of "FLAT", a Billing Cycle of "M" and importantly the "Apply Award Based Charges" checkbox is ticked. This indicates that the system is using the Fee Interpreter to calculate charges.

Fee Interpreter?
A quick jump to [System Codes ] / Service / Fee Interpreter, gives us:

What we see here is a very simple fee schedule - where irrespective of the type of day ( that is normal, weekend or public holiday), we're charging the client based on a code "D5".
This has identified how we got the D5 onto the shift - we now need to find how D5 translates into $.

Where's D5 defined?
D5 is used instead of a dollar value so that if you have the same fee structure for many of your clients, all of whom have different values - this approach gives you endless flexibility.
D5 is a code against the client - we see from the image above relating to T1, that there is no D5 code value in the lower portion of the display, where "Code Description and Rate" are located.
So, recalling how we created this infrastructure - remember that we made T1 a sub-client to SACL. Let's then see how we find our way around.
Again, on the Client Contracts record for T1, however, this time on the Accounts tab:

We see that the Charge to Code has the value SACL, which tells us that we need to check the Client Contracts for SACL in an attempt to locate the correct charge code.

Opening the Client Contracts we find:

We find D5 with a value of $35.00. (Please note: this data is simply test data for the purposes of demonstrating the system infrastructure).
